Use of Cookies and log information of the EFCA's Website

Cookies are small bits of data sent by a website server to the browser on your computer or mobile device. The browser tells the server when you next visit that particular website. The cookie allows the technical functioning of the website but also to "remember" your actions or preferences over time.

Log information

Server logs may include information such as the date and time of your visit, your Internet Protocol address, browser type, browser language, browser screen size, and one or more cookies that identify your browser. The information we collect is only used to compile statistics, on an aggregated basis, on the usage of our site.

Site usage information

This website uses the second level domain (used by the websites of European institutions). Through its service EFCA Analythics, web statistics are generated using Matomo (formerly Piwik), a software hosted in EFCA’s servers and located in the EU. An anonymous ID will enable Matomo to identify your session; this ID is meaningless to anybody else, and it cannot be used to identify an individual user. Matomo will store cookies in your computer, but no personal data will be collected.

If you prefer that your visit is not tracked by Matomo you can opt-out by clicking in the box below:

Most browsers support cookies, but users can set their browsers to decline them and can delete them whenever they like - for details, see

How is your privacy respected?

The European Fisheries Control Agency (EFCA) retains full responsibility and control of the data collected through first party cookies and tags by storing the data in servers fully owned and controlled by the Agency.

The data will not be shared with any other organisations for marketing, market research or commercial purposes.

All analytics data communication is encrypted via HTTPS protocol. The analytical reports generated by EFCA Analytics can only be accessed by duly authorised persons who may be required to analyse, develop and/or regularly maintain certain sites.

Social media cookies

The EFCA maintains a presence on social media channels in order to raise levels of awareness of its work. In particular, the Agency is active in the Twitter, Facebook, YouTube and LinkedIn communities.

You can watch EFCA videos, which we embed to our YouTube page. However, please note that YouTube has its own cookie and privacy policies. Similarly, you can also follow links from our website to the other social media profiles: by clicking on the relevant button on our website, you will be re-directed to the social media page, which has their own cookie and privacy policies over which EFCA has no control.

The EFCA website does not set cookies with the display of links to our social media channels when you are browsing our website.

EFCA's site usage information

First party cookies are set by the website and are not readable by any third parties. EFCA Analytics is configured to store first-party cookies that expire after 11 months. Detailed information regarding the cookies managed by EFCA Analytics, as well as their specific use and expiration date is available here.

Specific questions about the storage and use of EFCA Analytics data can be sent to us via our contact form.
